| Why is the Russia White ? |
Belarus (in word for word translation, the White Russia) may be absolutely new entity on the map of Europe, but its name is at list 750 years old. However, it was not always applied to the present-day Belarus, as the recently published book by Alexander Bely, The chronicle of the White Russia, shows.

Belarus (in word for word translation, the White Russia or White
Ruthenia) seems to be absolutely new entity on today's map of Europe. Its very existence had scarcely reached the ears of those abroad until sudden emergence of the New Independent States in 1991. It has, however, own glorious though dim history. Both in the cultural and the geographical sense, what is now known as Belarus represented a vast area of transition between Europe and Muscovy (modern Russia), an area of deep, external penetration and of weak local resources and identity. It was neither Polish nor Russian, but has never in its long career been able to determine its own destiny. Its Slav population had little sense of belonging except to the "Christian souls of these parts."

Belarus (or "Byelorussia", in word for word translation, the White Russia) may be absolutely new entity on the map of Europe, but its name is at least 750 years old. However, it was not always applied to the present-day Belarus, as the recently published book by Ales
Biely, The chronicle of the White Russia, shows. The itinerant name White Russia was coined in the medieval literature in German
(Weissrussland) and Latin (Russia Alba) and since 13th century was applied by the Western scholars now to the north-west Russia adjacent to Finland and
Karelia, then to the northern littoral of the Black Sea. > падрабязна <

Belarus: A real or fictitious Nation? |
Few people in the world were aware of the existence of Belarus until the so-called referendum of November 1995 that completely destroyed the remnants of parliamentary democracy that had briefly existed in the country after the collapse of the Soviet Union. The partial successes that the Adradzennie (Revival), movement for the restoration of the national identity, achieved during the post-independence "thaw" of 1991-1994, proved to be rather ephemeral. Belarus appears to be the first post-colonial state in modern history that is striving to re-unite with the former imperial
centre. Re-Sovietisation is picking up speed. There is no shortage of people, both in the West and in Russia, who claim that the very existence of a separate Belarusian nation has always been a fiction. But this is not entirely true.

Belarusian Beer Lacks Genealogy, but this deficiency could be easily
remedied |
Over
the last three centuries, the interest in the history of foreign and domestic
beers has noticeably increased in the world. The light Pilsner lagers have
become tiresome, and now, fastidious beer lovers are looking for newer and newer
sensations.
However, there’s nothing new under the sun... So it’s no wonder that
connoisseurs’ curiosities are turning toward the renewal of beer traditions
that can take them back to the pre-industrial epoch. > падрабязна < |
